I have a dell computer, it's 5 years old. I want a new printer, my HP deskjet doesn't work anymore.?

I figure I'll get a new laptop next year, but I want a printer that will work with the current computer and the new one. I mostly print paper not pictures, and wouldn't mind a copier as part of the printer. I don't want to spend a lot, any suggestions as to what printer to get and where? Thanks!

what is wrong with the hp ? I would buy a canon anyway.

Which HP deskjet do you have? What is the symptom? I have a workhorse HP DESKJET 895 for almost 7 years. I would recomend an HP PCS or all-in-one. Those can scan-print, or fax, and you can buy one with automatic document feeder ( very handy for faxing multi-pages) for less than $100-150.
