Gateway Parts

Is it possible to upgrade the video card in my gateway laptop?

I've got a gateway laptop, m-series with a video card that has only 128 mb ram. I'm assuming this is shared with the system. The cards pretty slow, Its an ATI Radeon X1200 series. Is it possible to swap this card like is possible in a desktop?

  1. No, most laptops have the video card integrated onto the motherboard, which is typically manufactured specifically for the laptop you have. So, to change the video card you'd have to get a new motherboard that would fit your laptop and then possibly upgrade the processor and RAM. Between labor hours, research hours, and voiding any and all warranties, this is definitely not worth it. Some newer laptops offer dedicated graphics cards, but these are far and few between. Check the manufacturer's website to see if your m-series has that ability. Again, these aren't always upgradeable. Finally, your current video card is most likely running off of shared system RAM.
  2. You must swap it like it it done in a normal laptop but in a slightly varying way. You have to remove the casing then ..................................... Ahh
  3. Yes its possible to swap it out as long as the motherboard will support it...so I would check gatways site to find the specs on your laptop and then choose a good 512mb card ... Heck Gateway might even have one...hope this helps
  4. you cant upgrade a graphics card in a laptop..only upgradable things for a laptop is the hard drive and ram...thats all
