What do I do if I can't find my "Gateway Restore Disk" and my expert says he needs it to redo my computer??
My Gateway laptop bit the dust and the computer expert says I need to uninstall everything so he can "restore" my original computer and reinstall all my programs. We've moved a few times recently. I have my Gateway Drivers CD and most of my software programs, but I cannot find the Gateway Restore disk. Also, the expert told me part of the problem is having something like Yahoo Messenger on my computer (I never use it.) or downloading music. (I've never used anything like itunes.) What can I do??? Thanks for any advice!

- Do a system restore.GO to programs>>accessories>>system tools>>system restore.
- I am far from a computer expert, but if I were in your situation: I would not authorize any work to be done on my laptop. I would try to call Gateway and describe the situation to them, including the missing restore disk. You'll need model, ID number of your laptop. Listen to what they have to say. Then you can make an informed decision. Depending on the problem and the skill of the repair person, be aware that you may not regain any files you had saved on your hard drive. I hope it goes well for you and would be interested in knowing what you find out.
- Tell your expert to do a system recovery. If he is an expert, then he will know what that means. In case he doesn't know, tell him to tap the F-10 key as the computer is booting up. It will wipe everything off of your system, you will have to put all your programs back on, but when he gets finished, your computer will look like new.. Just follow the directions, when the recovery starts, and you don't need your restore disk..
- he is not a expert look go to gateway website and re order your recovery cd it will cost like 50 dollar max and you fix yourself i will help you email me
- there should be a sticker on the pc with the product code that you can use to reinstall (legit) with a burned copy of xp that a tech has. Only prob is it has to match perfectly with the version of your key. Best bet is to order the cds
