Gateway Parts

What is causing my laptop to turn off?

I have a gateway MX6027 laptop that turns off when you move it or flex it. It does not warn you that it is going to go off it just goes off like you would have unplugged it and removed the battery. It is plugged in to the electric. I know there is something loose inside but I don't know what part is loose. What could be loose that would cause the computer to turn off when moved?

  1. Try these things: 1. See if the outlet in the wall where you plug it in has a "tight fit" If you can wiggle the plug around in the outlet, it might be that. If that's the case, take it to a different plug and check it there. 2. Get another power cord, and see if it happens with that. If it does continue to happen with a new cord, it is most likely something inside the computer where the adapter plugs into it. More often than not, it is the power cord itself.

  3. i have had this problem before. flip your laptop upside down. see if you can unlatch or unscrew the back of it. once you get the back off you should see you power unit. it'll be where you plug your thing into the wall. make sure it is all plugged in and there are no broken solder points (if it has solder points to break). if it looks all right it could be that your whole power unit is broken and maybe shorting itself out. not being there i cant help you much more than telling you to take it to a shop, if my other suggestions fail. good luck! p.s. could also be harddrive. make sure the molex connectors are all the way plugged in. mostly i think it is your power source. they usually run 80- 200 apiece for a laptop.
