Gateway Parts

Laptop turns off and won't turn back on- why?

Ok- so I have a gateway laptop- its almost 4 years old- I had it cleaned about a year and a half ago (thats irrelevant- but it just means there isn't 4 years worth of dirt in it). Tonight I was listening to music when all of a sudden it turned off (but it didn't seem like it turned off the same way as when it overheats)- it also made a clicking noise for a couple of seconds. I tried pressing the power button- but it didn't turn back on. After reading around- I tried the following method: take out the battery, unplug the AC adapter, and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then I plugged the AC back in- the computer got to the Gateway thing after this, and then turned off. So I decided I'd stick the battery in- and it booted up fine just as normal. During this whole time (minus the part where there was absolutely no power hooked up) the battery charging light (which is yellow on my laptop) remained on- even when the battery wasn't in the laptop. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why this occurred, whether its likely to occur again, and how I could prevent it from happening again? Was the clicking sound something serious? Would cleaning it again prevent things? Thanks for the response! I don't know about hibernation mode- whenever its done that its always been really easy to get it out of it- when I pressed the start button this time nothing happened- the start button didn't even blink. Yeah- I wasn't using the battery when it went down- the laptop had the battery in it though. I have read about that happening to other laptops. The light that was on was at the front of my computer- I have 2 lights- one that is blue- it indicates that the computer is on... the other is the orange light... it indicates that the battery was charging. Even when I had the battery out (and still the AC adapter plugged in) the orange light was on- which was odd- after it shut down (until I tried my method which got it to come back up again) the blue light didn't come back on. Thanks again for your help :) Any other ideas?
