how do i hook my gateway 5350 laptop to a tv?

i have a gateway 5350 laptop and i read in a review that said it had a video out in the back so i could hook it up to a tv, i looked at mine and i found it, so i decided to hook it up to my tv. but when i did i did not see anything on the tv. the display remained on the laptop screen. is there some menu i need to pull up to get the second display or what, because i am really confused here. and don't say that i can't hook it up to a tv because i know i can(i just don't know how). please answer.

1. read your laptop manual, its in there...
2. I can't find any good specs on your laptop. However, you can probably hook it up to a TV using an svideo. You could then enable that connection via your video drivers. Make sure your video drivers are up-to-date
