Gateway Parts

Anyone have any free computer parts they want to send me?

I am building a "new" computer. My last one died and as a poor teacher, I need it but cannot afford one. I'm taking some parts from two old computers that I have. I don't know much about building them and am just learning. If you know of any good websites to order parts from or to learn more about building a computer from scratch, I'd appreciate it. Please include your e-mail address if you have parts. So far I have: case (power supply?) 256MB RAM CD burner What else do I need?

  1. No. Although if you're just looking for something cheap, wait till your school upgrades. They'll have old enough systems they aren't good for much else and usually wind up throwing them away. For components, www.newegg.com is hard to beat. You can also watch www.dealnews.com and www.slickdeals.net and piece a system together. Major problem with buying parts from multiple vendors is when you have a problem, very hard to figure out how and who to resolve it with.
  2. cant give anything to u, but I shop at tigerdirect.com, they have good prices. U also need a motherboard, CPU, hard drive, monitor, keyboard, mouse, Operating System- (Linux is free, but hard to install, and a little difficult to use for newbs) depending on the motherboard u buy, u aslo might need a video and audio card. oh and make sure the tower case fits with the motherboard.
  3. NO,but, I would suggest looking at Goodwill or other such organizations as they receive things like that.
