HP pavillion notebook won't turn on properly?!?

Hey everyone!! I have an HP pivillion dv2000 that I got as a christmas present from my folks about 2-3 years ago. It's my first laptop, and it ran perfectly for the next years! I thought it was the best laptop ever! But, then, a few months came, and it kept getting slower, and almost nothing on it worked. Came to a conclusion that I had a virus, but the sad part is, I came to that conclusion when my laptop didn't turn on properly, and a virus had erased all the memory on there, according to this computer "guy". Well, I took it to this computer guy, and he fixed for me. I had fewer programs, some were even new! But, my ClearWire connection wouldn't get to it. *ClearWire: My wireless company* So I would always get some random connections from anywhere in the house. I suppose they came from neighboors and stuff. One night, I got a REALLY good connestion in my room, so, I decided to surf the web. A few minutes later, my laptop blacked out on me. I tried turning it back on, but everytime I pressed the on button, the screen would just stay black, even though the on button said it was on. A week later I went to Best Buy to talk to a Geek Squad associate. He tried the same thing I did at home, pressing the power button over and over. He told me it was weird that it wouldn't turn on. I either had a problem with the battery or my screen. He said I should call HP for advice. I'd like to know what you guys think I should do, and what my laptop might have. Did that random connection give me a virus or something? To this day, it STILL WONT TURN ON!!! Thanks. ~~Krash

  1. I've got a pavillion and had a problem where powering it on would light up the blue media buttons, but the screen would never come on, nor display anything. It would then beep and turn itself off shortly after. It sounds like you've got the same problem and I'm sorry to say that's a 'return to HP' issue. If it was bought 2-3 years ago it is unlikely it will still be in warranty (check with your folks if they bought an extended warranty) and I'm afraid I don't know what price range you'd be talking for them to fix it. Best bet is to talk to HP's support and talk to them.
  2. forget the battery, can you plug it into the wall socket? Does it work then? When my battery is dead/discharged the screen stays black. I plug in my other battery. On occasion, both batteries are dead at the same time. I plugin the adapter and plug in to the wall socket. That recharges the battery.
  3. Sounds to me like it could be your memory is bad. That will explain the blank screen with power. Get a tech to diagnose the memory for you. I would but I live far away from you. good luck
