Does anyone has this problem with trying to connect the netgear router with a notebook(laptop)?

I just bought a HP G60-117US NOTEBOOK PC and I am trying to connect my router to it. I follow the set up but when I get to the part where they try to check what type of internet connection I have the address bar starts blinking and it looks like the computer is going crazy. Does anyone know why this is happening? NEED HELP!
