How do you remove the harddrive from a gateway w730-k8x laptop?
I have a gateway w730-k8x laptop, my son pulled it from table, while it was running, a few weeks later it wont boot windows, says its missing some file. I took it in the guys says probably the hard drive and he can fix it for 75 + 25 labor, but he wants to fix everything on the laptop, claims that is their policy. That would mean about $600 worth of parts and labor, so I am going to attempt it myself. I know some about working on a personal computer, but have been unable to open the case for the laptop. I have searched gateway and other sites, but as it is an older laptop (apprx. 2004) I cannot find any guides on it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

- Go to Gateway.com and find the manual for your laptop. Just put your serial number in the box and it should find it for you. http://support.gateway.com/support/default.aspx The hard drive is either held in by a screw on the back of the laptop and the hard drive slides out the side or it is located under a cover on the back of the laptop. If you can operate a screwdriver, you can replace the hard drive. Good Luck
