can you format an old gateway laptop with an hp disc?

I have a three year old gateway that needs a full system restore. I dont have the old disks anymore to do that. I have a new hp laptop with vista and I would like to try using those restore disks with the gateway, will that work? If not is there somewhere I can download a gateway restore disk for free?

1. no u cant use the Restore disk on it. If the HP came with an OEM version of vsita, u can use that
2. i wouldnt do it i mean yes it is possible to do so but i would not do it with a viista disk 1. Graphical memory is most likly to little making vista have 800 x 600 pixels which is huge 2. 1 gig of ram is not sufficant enough to run vista to check push ctrl+ alt+ delete at same time click performance it should say cpu.
3. you might get a systems restore disk from Gateway at a nominal free. you would need to contact GW customer services and ask there. or you could download Linux and install it on your old gateway, Linux is designed for laptops and is more secure, and faster than XP, Vista, You will get the Operating System and all the application software you will ever need FREE.
