Gateway Parts

how much better is this computer compared to this gateway?

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_XT/ http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/gateway-p-6860fx/4505-3121_7-32976305.html and whichever one is better, is there a better computer than that out there that is only a little more that would be worth it?

  1. the desktop. CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-920 2.66 GHz 8M L3 Cache LGA1366 is one of the first "true" quadcore processors that runs at 2.66 GHz. The laptop only has a duo. that runs at 1.8ghz (ie. the desktop is super fast super fast) Plus it has 3gigs of DDR3 ram (that's triple channel (Reads from three ram ports instead of just one)) The laptop uses ddr2 which is still not bad but in comparison to the desktop it falls short. The desktop has a 1TB hard drive (thats 1000gigs of memory) where as the laptop only has 320. as well as the desktops hard drive has speeds of 7200RPM so it reads data much faster then the 5400rpm that the laptop has. I can go on but the desktop is a clear winner. To the guy below: Read the motherboard specs better. It's SLI and crossfire capable. Switching motherboards would be stupid. as well as it has a 800wat power supply already. You don't need much more then that
  2. most likely the desktop will have way more performance but with the ati card and all the other parts i would think seriously about a power supply upgrade of around 600 watts ( or more if you plan on running 2 or 3 graphics cards) they miss matched a ati card with a sli motherboards on the desktop too so you might want to switch the motherboard for a cross fire one or spend unnecessary bucks on a under powered nvidia card ( and then if you want to 2 or 3 of them even more bucks)
