Gateway Parts

Is it safe to reuse a wireless PCI card from a computer who's power supply died?

Several years ago, I had a computer (ATX form factor, Windows xp) that had a power supply failure. Rather than replace the power supply to see if the other components still worked, I let it sit in a closet. Now I have another desktop computer that I would like to upgrade with cannibalized parts from the old computer. Is this safe? Does a power supply failure fry all of the other components within a computer? I would like to use a PCI wireless linksys card from the dead comp.

  1. Power supply failure is far more common in computers. Generally it does not affect other parts, but may. If you plan to cannabilize parts from an old computer to a new one you may have compatibility issues, older architecture and technology vs new stuff. Replace the power supply in the old machine and have two computers!
  2. you should be fine, when you put in in and it works then OK if not Just buy a newer one
  3. It should be fine, plug it in and give it a go !!
