- you don't need to upgrade or do anything unless your power supply is less than 200 watts
- What is that default power supply unit and why do you think you need another separate one? Throw in those details to get the answers.
- Your answer is yes, go upgrade.... Power Requirements for 9600GT: 600W Minimum Power Supply 6-Pin Power Connectors Operating System Requirements: Microsoft Windows XP Microsoft Windows Vista Expansion Slot Requirements Available PCI-Express Bus Slot
- I've never had to change the original PSU on a computer even after using it for years. If you get a powerful enough one when you get the computer, it should be good. What is the wattage on your current PSU? I think a 9600gt requires 400w, so you need at least that to power the card and everything else on your computer.
- The 9600GT does NOT require a 600W power supply - it draws a maximum of 61W (512mb version) and runs happily on 400W power supplies. If your system's stock psu is 400W or higher, there's no need to upgrade.
