- If you are not Tech Savy or don't have a Geek Buddy, to be honest the fact that your Solo 5300 is a Pentium III, upgrading would be wasting your money bec even add'l memory and a larger hard drive plus labor to install would not show big enough improvements that you might be disappointed and hate yourself for a bad decision. I recommend you searching for a good deal & buying a used Notebook PC on your local Craigslist bec many things or gates/events can go wrong that might make your Solo 5300 inoperable that you'd wish you never considered upgrading. Also if you plan on keeping this used Notebook PC and making the most of your investment, don't buy too cheap and plan to spend between $300 and $400 minimum Otherwise memory is a simple install as long as you purchase the right ones that are compatible. To give you a clue, visit CRUCIAL, KINGSTON, CORSAIR and normally all the memory manufcaturer have a finder feature that allows you to insert Manufacturer: GATEWAY and Model No. Solo 5300. Reinstalling Windows OS on your new hard drive can be tricky activating Windows which is why I think you might be better off donating your Pentium III to a charity or non-profit school. Hope the Info Helps and Best of Luck!
