Do Gateway computers have a router installed in them?

my dad said the problem why our modem wont give use wifi is because we need a router do gateway computers have a router installed in them?

1. Well your dad was right about the router part, but routers are not installed in computers. It's a device similar to the modem. You put the wireless router next to the modem and you connect the two using an ethernet cable. 2. A router is sold separate it is a device that you hook up to the modem then from there you can hook up more than 1 computer you need to make sure it says wireless router on the box when buying a router.
3. i would like to add that every device you want to "talk" to that router wirelessly also needs a usb adaptor or PCMCIA card so it can pick up the routers signal.
