My Gateway laptops webcam disconnects when on Yahoo Messenger?

the webcam starts up alright, & the person on the other end can view me for a few seconds, then the webcam disconnects. it will also freeze at different times before disconnecting. anyone have any answers. Gateway is telling me they can't help with a 3rd party software, or system

1. If you are using dial up connection - thats it - I used to get the same and then went broadband - you can track whats happening on the graphs in task manager - my cpu used to hit the roof and then disconnect - we would use small image to start up and try to change when running. Also make sure you are not carrying any old webcam software in your control panel programs - these can create conflicts check out some items below - especially connection - very important for yahoo. Yahoo Specifications To find out what the requirements are for a messenger webcam check out the following http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger9/webcam/mstacamreq.html Once you have your webcam working outside of Yahoo Messenger you have to configure it to messenger Connection Open messenger - on top toolbar > messenger > preferences > connection - select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have make sure your internet connection and country are correct in bottom boxes > apply > ok Test > messenger > my webcam - warning panel will come on click 'ok' and your webcam will launch. Allow options messenger > preferences > webcam - make your selections about who you want to allow to view you in use - when you are both on line and wish to show your webcam > actions > 'invite to view my webcam' this will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'accept' - they will see you ( can check status on bottom left of webcam panel there is a shortcut ( cam picture ) in toolbar and one down by your pic as well but these do not always work your contacts needs to configure their connection the same as above or they may get a "webcam not connected" message
