Does going from 64mb to 256mb of ram make a big difference?
i got a cheap Gateway Solo laptop with 64mb of preinstalled Ram. i put windows xp on it and found out very fast it wouldn't work out to great. i figured the cheapest way to improve the laptops performance was to get a 256mb ram stick for about $30. my question is, will it make a huge difference or is it not worth it?

- for 30 bucks it is definetly worth it
- yes but usually you get premium performance from 4GB RAM's. it's worth the money
- more ram is always worth the money, but go to www.crucial.com to make sure you get the right type and how much you can put in.
- yes will make alot of difference but still imo 256 is not enough. you can pick up 1gb stick for £20 easily, (ive just bought 3gb for under £50 the difference is huge yes, but also techonology and software has evolved and still wont be happy on that ram, unles you are doing the most basic task i suggest 512mb at the very least, thats even just for running word at a comfortable speed
- Well Try to get 526+ Ram because many programs require that. ex: Google Earth
- Yes it will make a difference. It will improve 5 times over.
- For a small investment of 20-80 you can get 1GB. 256MB is not nearly enough.
- Check here to be sure of what RAM you need for the machine: http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/models.asp?System=&search_type=&Distributor=0&root=us&LinkBack=http://www.kingston.com&Manufacturer=GTW&WildCard=solo&OriginalSysPN= Choose your EXACT machine from the list and you will know ! The REAL sweet spot for XP is 1 GB.
