How Do I Hook Up my gateway laptop to my tv? and what do i need?

Okay, so i wanna hook up my gateway laptop to my tv...i have windows vista (if that's any help). What cords do i need, all i found is a cord that extends to two different cords (red and black)..HELP PLZ!

1. If both the TV and the laptop have HDMI ports, get an HDMI cable and connect them together. Should work
2. either use HDMI cord (relatively cheap online), if available, or, if your TV accepts it, a VGA/DVI cable.
