- once you format the harddrive you lose the original operating system. You should have only formatted half of it and installed XP. You might be able to format again and run the gateway recovery disk. Goodluck.
- Well, first you formatted your hard drive. This got rid of all of the previous installations of your operating system. The thing to do would be to right click on my computer and go to properties. Click the hardware tab then click on device manager. It should list all installed hardware. From there you can search for updates for your drivers - which if you didn't have XP installed originally you will need to do. If the device manager doesn't show your sound system, you need to do a search for un-installed devices. XP may not have recognized the system when you installed it.
