Can you put a hard drive into an IBM thinkpad laptop from a gateway solo laptop?

I have a really old IBM thinkpad 380z as well as a really old Gateway solo (both had windows 98 on them) I was wondering if it would be possible to transfer the hard drive from the gateway to the IBM.

1. open it up and look at what type of harddrive it is! silly goose =)
2. Probably. Back then they we both probably PATA drives. However, the hardware is going to be totally different between the systems. Do not expect it to boot. If you plan on reloading the OS and rebuilding the software from scratch, then that is O.K. If you want it to just boot and look like the Gateway system did then it is not going to work.
