How do I know if my HP battery is part of the recalled batch or not?
I recently bought a couple of used HP laptop batteries on Craigslist. But after I got home, I realized the first two letters on the each of the batteries is the one listed for recall. Now when I went to the HP website to enter the entire battery code to figure out if these batteries were recalled, it asked for the serial number on the laptop. Now since I bought it from someone else, I do not have the serial number. And I am unable to contact that guy. I do not want to risk using a recalled battery. But is there any way of finding out without knowing the serial number on the notebook?

- Since the batch is listed for recalled, it simple means to avoid all means of using it. I would suggest you called up HP technical helpdesk and do a basic enquiry on the starting batch no. for the recalled battery (eg. H105xxxxxxx), remember do not feed them with too much details such as the entire batt serial number.
- Call the customer service hotline. Some dealers will exchange it for you. You can try exchanging the two for one new battery. That might work. Find out the location of the nearest dealer and go see them with the batteries. If there was a recall, they are legally obliged to give you a new one. Its called the Duty of Care to the ultimate customer which is you in this case
