Gateway (M-Series) Won't boot up...again, please help!?

I have a Gateway M-Series laptop and a few months ago it started to go into "comas." After a while of the computer being in "sleep" mode or just on, it would shut down. I would try to start it up, but it won't boot up. Several times, I had to wait until the next day for it to work. It has not been working for several days now. The computer performance is otherwise excellent. It is not the battery or the outlet/charger. I heard that it may be some kind of "hibernation glitch" or something. I'm pretty sure it's out of warranty. So if someone can at least give me some general diagnostics, it would be appreciated. Thanks! I have also tried to run the laptop with the A/C only. If it overheats, would the problem I describe occur?

1. that happened to me and i couldn't even fix it with the gateway restore cd so i had to take it to geeksquad.
