Would this CPU work for my Gateway FX laptop???
I have a Gateway FX- laptop that has the following 8800gts graphics card 4gb ram 320gig hd Intel core 2 duo T5550 @ 1.83ghz It seems to be a gaming machine EXCEPT for the cpu. I have a desktop at home that i built myself just for gaming, and it has a Intel core 2 Q6600 processor. Well, since my mom has stolen it while i am at college, i have noticed some pretty weak game playing on GTA 4. Im pretty sure its because my CPU is at at such a low number. So i was wondering if anyone could tell me if i could switch the two cpus? Or would i have to go out and buy something special to put in a laptop? - You cannot put a Desktop CPU in a Laptop. It's over $300 for a mobile cpu with 2.4 GHz http://www.bizrate.com/cpus_computerprocessorupgrades/intel-core-2-duo-t7700-2.40ghz-mobile-processor--pid577856654/compareprices.html
- I would have to say no, sorry. You may find it impossible to change the cpu in the laptop. It may be hard wired into the mother board.
- You will need to look at mobile processors like these, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010340759%201686143084&name=Socket%20P But they are pricier than desktop ones you can spend $300-$400 and still only see minor improvements over your 1.8 Ghz. Also, changing a laptop cpu is very involved and will most likely void any warranty you have on it.
- The CPU in your desktop and the one in your laptop are 2 different animals. Like Apples and Oranges. Wait, those are fruit. I should have said like Iguanas and Antelopes. Anyway, I am afraid you will not be able to do what you want to do, because if you do do what it is that you would like to do, It just will not do.
