Gateway Parts

Is it possible to use a Netgear WG111v2 wireless card on an old Gateway laptop using Windows 98?

I found an old Gateway laptop today and it seems to be working fine. It's running Windows 98, and i was wondering if i could use a Netgear wireless card, style: WG111v2 to connect to the internet. I installed all the drivers necessary, and it now connects to the wireless internet. The connection is strong, but whenever i attempt to browse it says there is no internet connection available. Is the laptop a lost hope?

  1. If it connects and the drivers are good, it's probably ok on that front. Have you tried a different browser? What sort of results are you getting from Start -> Run -> command -> ipconfig /all You may have to go "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" if it isn't getting an appropriate 192.0.x.x address; and often that will sort it right out. Otherwise it very well could be something like viruses or corruption in the winsock--I'd run a virus scan just to make sure.
