I broke my Gateway laptop lcd screen, and i am trying to connect it to an external monitor. I cannot see anything on the screen, so im not sure what to do. i have connected the external monitor to the side of the laptop, but now im lost..it didnt do anything, what do i do now?

- that REALLY sucks D: to enable dual moniters, you need to do so by checking in a box in windows. Sadly you cant do that because your screen is broken. If your trying to recover files, i would recommend plugging the hard drive into a diffrent computer. You would then be able to recover them there. Otherwise, suck up and pay the fixing costs for your LCD. Or just buy a new laptop. :D
- I'm not sure about the Gateway, but on some laptops you can do the following: a) power up the laptop with the lid closed - usually this is done with a docking station but if you don't have one you could try hitting the power switch and then closing the lid before Windows boots (with the display connected. Of course you won't have access to the keyboard but at least you could try - and then plug in a USB keyboard and mouse. b) Some laptops have a keyboard combination to toggle the internal to external display. On Thinkpads it's Fn + F7, on Dells it's Fn + F8. Since you didn't provide the laptop model, I can't check on line to see if Gateways have similar functionality.
