Virus or more expensive problem with laptop?

My notebook will go past the initial Compaq logo. However, shortly after it stops at the Microsoft bar. Here's the crappy part: When I hit F11 to reformat, after Windows loads the files, it freezes. So my first question: Is this a virus doing this (which I hope it is) and secondly: Would my company tech. be able to fix this or am I looking at ample amounts of money being spent? 1. You should format your computer using a Windows disc. There's almost no chance that your computer could freeze while doing that. Just find the original discs that came with your computer, stick it in, boot from disc, and either run Windows recovery and repair Windows or completely reformat your hard drive and install Windows again. These are almost guaranteed to work.
