Gateway Solo 9300 Laptop?

i have a gateway solo 9300 and when i switch it on it says no operating system. its on windows 98 and ive tried re-installing windows but i just get a error message and it wont work! i dont have a recovery disc and i dont know what else to do can someone help please!!! it can be upgraded to xp! I already have a laptop on vista, the gateway is my nieces!!

1. Here's what you do: Buy a new PC. Windows 98 is soooo old. I don't know what you're possibly getting done on that PC. It would be worth the money to just trash the Windows 98 PC and buy a new one that comes installed with Vista, or XP at least.
2. If you have a floppy drive installed on your laptop, make sure there is no floppy inserted. If that isn't it, it could be that your hard drive has failed. I'd suggest that you take it to a shop that you trust or someone nearby who works around computers for a livelihood and let the person take a look at it and do the repair for you. You might want to consider in purchasing a new laptop, since XP will longer or is not already - supported by Microsoft.
3. agreed with nick, buy a new PC because A) Fixing ur current laptop can cost alot since it's an old model and it will be hard to find the parts. B) Windows 98 is way too old and whatever you would try to do wouldn't go well.
