Can a HP moniter work with a Gateway laptop?

My laptop screen is a little screwy so i want to get a moniter to keep on my desk but i dont want to get a whole new computer system. So i found a good HP moniter that i can afford but i dont know if it will work with my Gateway laptop. Any info would be awesome.

1. yes it will. Any monitor brand will work as long as the connection is the same type.
