Compaq C717NR notebook is not recognizing new harddrive!?

I am trying to install a new hard drive to my Compaq C717NR notebook and I am using Windows XP Pro boot disk and when I get to the part where is shows the partitions it says there is no disks shown. I tested the hard drive in the bios and it passed so I don't think it can be broken. Any reason why it is not showing up...the other hard drive before it broke had Windows Vista premium installed on it could that be an issue? Any help would be nice.

1. Your notebook uses a SATA hard drive. Windows XP doesn't have the drivers for it. See source for getting the drivers and installing the SATA drivers without a floppy drive.
