Gateway Parts

What programs should I put on a new computer?

Due to me working at a large computer company, I get a good discount on parts every once in a while so I am putting a fairly decent computer together for my older brother. The problem is, he and his wife arent big computer geeks like I am. Think of them as a couple of years beyond the computer era. I am trying to think of what programs I should put on there that computer iliterate people would like that take advantage of a high end PC. any suggestions?

  1. the following will make ur computer fantastic: 1) Realplayer 2) Picasa3 3) itunes+Quicktime 4) Mozilla Firefox 5) Google Chrome 6) Yahoo Messenger (If Required only) 7) Google Talk 8) Nero 8.1 9) AVG Anti-Virus 8.5 10) WinRAR
  2. any dvd and nero for burning dvds links to sites like youtube/facebook ect mp3 collection funny pictures powerpoint viewer word ect games like unreal tournament or mame32 games
  3. I would say Firefox and Thunderbird for definite, even if you are stuck with letting them use Windoze. Rather than 4-5 different Instant Messenger clients, why not set them up with Trillian Pro, so they can have all their friends in one interface, less confusing that way? Google Earth. OpenOffice, which as you know does anything Microsoft Office does, only without paying mega-bucks for the privilege. version 3 went on general release a couple of days ago. PowerDVD.
