Gateway Parts

My M-series Gateway laptop is getting extremely hot. Any idea of why? Maybe it just needs a break?

I have the fan uncovered so it can cool itself but when i have the laptop plugged in and am using it- it gets extremely hot and I'm wondering how hot is too hot and is this normal? Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks :)

  1. This is a very common problem with laptops. Its caused because of a lack of ventilation to the laptop. I would open up your laptop, and take an air compressor or a "Can of Air" and blow all the dust out of it. When computers in general are on carpets or any fabric, the will slowly suck up the particles from the fabric and block off the vents. I'd also try to set your laptop on a hard surface to prevent the bottom vents from being covered up. I hope this helps! 2. Never use a lap top on a soft surface like pillows or bedding it can block the cooling vents it is also a surface that does not dissipate heat well. Use a can of compressed air and blow out the cooling vents to clean out any build up of dust/lint. Buy and use a lap top cooling pad with built in fans that connect to a USB port. I use the Targus and GearHead lap top cooling pad and never use one of my lap tops with out a cooling pad.
  3. My HP gets super hot too on the underneath, I bought a chill pad, with 2 fans, helps so much. I got my MOM a Toshiba sattlelight and hers barely gets warm, if it's smelling or too hot to touch, you might have a fan problem and it might need to be repaired. You can get the chillpads or laptop fan pads at walmart or Target or bestbuy.
