Can I customize a Dell computer with parts from Newegg or anywhere else?
My brother told me that a Dell motherboard won't except any type of part unless it's from Dell. I don't know from experience if this is true or not, so I wanted to make sure. Yes, i'm a noob. But not for long. :P

- Dell computers will take parts from any manufacturer. Dell computers don't use Dell parts; they use parts from other manufacturers and piece them together in Dell cases. Keep in mind that you will have to find parts that are the same interfaces, same specifications. If you are wondering what parts to get you can post what you have now and we can try to help. Note: when asking if a newer part will work be a specific as possible about the parts you have now, eg. motherboard specs, speed of RAM, etc, as these will greatly help us find the best solution for you.
- It shouldn't be a brand thing, but a compatibility thing. Not all motherboards work with everything out there. You'll need to figure out what you have to find what will work best with it. All computers can be upgraded and customized. Newegg.com is my favorite computer parts store. Just got a new hard drive there. If you go to JS-computing.com they have forums there that can answer some of your questions. You'll need to know your computer specs to give them a clearer picture of what you have and what you need.
