Sony VGN-FZ240E No sound from notebook speaker, but have in headphone?

I contacted my computer's support (Sony) for my notebook computer's sound problem and they said it was hardware after multiple troubleshooting. However, they didn't give me the info regarding what part and such and tried to get me to service my computer with them. I want to buy/repair on my own. What part or type of hardware do I have to purchase? Is it a sound card?

1. try opening the computer and check weather the cable from motherboard to speaker is not broken or faulty. Then check the speakers...if the cable is ok...check the pins in the cable socket and motherboard...most of the technicians are useless while solving the problems.
