- It depends what you want to do. Vista / Windows is the best choice for gaming. For virtually anything else An Apple running Mac OS X is better, or anything running Linux. If its for school, you get a discount: http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/routingpage.html
- im on a gateway right now... i like it and the screen is really nice no complaints here, except mine takes awhile to trn on from being completely shut off but im no expert!
- Gateway Computers are C R A P ! I, personally, have yet to meet anyone that has ever been happy with their Gateway computer... In fact, I can name 4 people right now that ended up NEVER being able to use their computer AT ALL and had to threaton lawsuits before Gateway would refund their money for their Lemon Systems!! HORRIBLE company... Stick with HP...
- That is a good price for what you are getting. Make sure the speed is 1.6 GHz or more.
- probably better than an equivalent dell. But do you really want Vista??? You need a fast processor (I recommend a dual core 2ghz or above and at least 4gb of RAM). It makes more sense to get an xp machine. costs less, works better and faster.
- I'm happy with my first Gateway. It's 10 years old and running great. I'm very not-happy with my new one. They've REALLY gone downhill. They put bad thermal compound on the processor (overheating, yay!), the motherboard short-circuited, and the cd drive is dead. It's a year old. If you're not a gamer (which I'm guessing you're not based on the thinking about a Mac thing), try Linux. I'd recommend ZaReason for their *excellent* customer service. They pre-load a very very easy-to-use Linux distro called Ubuntu which is guaranteed to work on their hardware perfectly. They don't even take away your warranty if you add more memory (or whatever) like just about every major OEM does. Linux has the security of OSX, and Ubuntu has its ease-of-use. Linux is free though, so ZaReason's computers come at Windows-computer prices.
