Will an older power supply work in a newer computer?
I have an old Windows 98 computer, which has all good parts in it. I have a newer computer which the power supply has stopped working. Could I use the older power supply in it? The newer power supply which no longer works has the 4 pin connector, the older power supply does not.

- The older unit will not put enough power out for most newer computers -
- VERY doubtful and you never want to skimp on a power supply for a desktop. Go with a reputable brand.
- Probably too weak and with no 4 pin motherboard connector it is incompatible.
- Even if the pin connectors matched up I wouldn't think you'd get enough power. The unit might turn on but it could overheat, lag rainbows, or even lock up on you when you go to plug in devices. Overheating would be the more dangerous problem, especially since the fans themselves need energy to work properly.
