What laptop brand should I get? Dell, toshiba, gateway, or hp?

I'm looking for a cheap laptop (no more than 700 without tax). Should I buy a dell, toshiba, gateway, or hp? Which ones last longer? My brother and I had dell as our first laptops and they crashed in about 1.5 yrs. I'm not sure if I'd want to go with dell again. I'm thinking HP. What your opinion? Which laptop brand do you think last the longest?

1. I have an hp laptop for about 6 years and it still runs good. But it depends on how well you take care of it.
