Wayward Mouse Icon, how to keep behaved?

My cursor (Acer notebook pc) suddenly flies out to another spot on my work. This is quite irritating since as I type, the new text appears on that 'accidental spot' and not on the part of the ms word document i'm working on. My touchpad is active when i work, but I use the mouse mostly, and I don't think i accidentally touch the touchpad as I work. But i really would like to keep my touchpad active as it does come in handy at times. Can anyone suggest a way to deal with this problem?

  1. If you move your hand about 1/8" above the touchpad, you're moving the cursor. Individual touchpads have different sensitivity ranges, but you can move the cursor with most of them without actually touching them.
