Two pairs of glasses from two different opticians - bad idea?

A part of my job requires that I sit at a computer several hours a week. I was getting neck pain, so my employer paid for an eye exam and a pair of computer glasses. I actually need new glasses for private use, too, so the optical store from where I got them offered me a 15% discount if I buy another pair of glasses from them. I would actually save a bit more, because they can use the exam that my employer already paid for. However, a few other optical stores in town are offering a second pair of glasses (computer glasses, sun glasses, or just an extra pair) for free when you pay full price for the first pair. It would be good, actually, to get some computer glasses for home use, too, so that offer is very tempting. But my concern is that the new prescription might be slightly different from the one my employer paid for. So, my question is this: if I get my eyes examined and get 2 pairs of glasses from another optical store, will it be too hard for my eyes to get used to two potentially slightly different prescriptions? Or, should I take advantage of the first optician's 15% discount offer and skip the second-pair-for-free deal?

  1. You will not need another eye examination to buy glasses from another opticians. You can just take the prescription that they issued you when you had you eyes examined to get your work glasses and have your new glasses made up from the other opticians that does the 2 for 1 offer with that same prescription
  2. By law you are entitled to a copy of your prescription, so go back to the store where you purchases the first ones and obtain a copy. While you are there, look at frames you would possibly choose for your new ones, and get prices. Make notes of the prices + cost of lenses, tint, etc., then minus the 15%. Then go tho the other store that offers the B1G1 offer with your prescription and select the frame of your choice, get the price and find out what you entitled to as your free pair. Some inflate the prices tremendously to compensate for the second pair, or offer you the free pair from a select group of frames. Then compare to see where you'd be getting the better deal. Pay specific attention to te cost of lenses at both places.
