Gateway Parts

Do I need more cooling in my computer if I upgrade certain parts?

I just picked up a computer(Gateway DX4300). Realized it only has a 300W power supply(NO idea why it's so low). Was going to put in a 600W power supply, and a Geforce 9800 GT graphics card. My question is - with the additional hardware, am I going to also now need more cooling for inside the unit? Thanks!

  1. Well, the PSU will have its own cooling fan(s) which will be designed to keep it at its optimum temp. The gfx card will generate more heat, but depending on which one you buy, it may come with a fan set up which vents out of the case. I would stick with the current set up and see how it goes, as fitting an additional fan is a very quick job if you are concerned about overheating once it is all assembled.
