Anyone good with computer parts?

My friend recently gave me a computer. He said it needs some kind of chord that plugs into the tower. The end looks like a phone jack. It plugs into the tower, then into the modem. I don't wanna buy the wrong thing, so what could this be? The computer is a HP Pavillion XE738. Any ideas? He's out of town, and I can't remember what this part is called.
