Having issues with built in microphone after upgrading to windows 7?

I have an HP laptop, part of the dv6000 entertainment notebook series. It was running Vista, and the build in microphone was fine. I upgraded recently Windows 7, and everything is fine except my microphone. When I try to record something, when I play it back, all it is is crackling noises. I am so frustrated! It says the microphone device is working properly. Please help! What can I do to fix this?

1. Your microphone may not be set as the default recording device. There is usually a dialog box/program for your audio card located in the system tray that lets you pick the defaults.
