Can the same power cord be used on a laptop in the philippines that I use in the US?

I have a used Compaq Presario notebook laptop that I am considering sending to a friend in the Philippines. My question is will my friend be able to use the same power cord that I use here in the US or will they need to purchase a different cord (due to plug and power difference in the Philippines) and if so where can I purchase one? Please dont tell me to go to their website again! I have been to the manufacturers website and called their customer service number but all I got was someone that I could not understand and he was asking me for all of my personal ID (name, email address, mailing address and phone number info as well as every number associated with the laptop. I finally just hung up on the poor guy due to pure frustration. I couldn't believe they would need all that info to answer 1 simple question about power cords. The worst part was that even after getting all that info he still was uable to give me a correct answer to a simple yes or no question. grrrrrr.

  1. I would assume that the Compaq is a 120 v 60hz machine and that is what you need to factor in for finding out if it will work in the Phillipines. If they have the same voltage, mhz, then no problem, you can use an adapter to change the plug style. But if it is say 220 volt or if it is 50 mhz, then it will not work without some sort of power changer, transformer, whatever. Something that is 60 mhz will slow down on a 50 mhz power system, and of course, 220 volt will fry your machine. Here is a web site I found with some info http://www.stayonline.com/country-guide-philippines.aspx Hope it helps.
  2. Of course any where in the world, only thing is you may have to change the plug to plug it inot the wall socket, or pick up a suitable adaptor, .
