What parts will I need to put a notebook hard drive into a desktop?
My old laptop had a hardware problem. The hard drive is still good as far as I know and I would like to put it into my desktop PC. Can someone tell me what type of cable & possibly hard drive enclosure I will need to make this happen? Thanks. ** Edited to add I would like to put the hard drive into the case and not use an external dock.

- depends on the HD type. If both computers are old then there should be no problem.
- You can just buy yourself a 2.5 inch enclosure, this should do the trick you can use it as a external HDD if you like and connect the enclosure through a usb port. Laptop HDDs are 2.5 inch in size. Good luck :)
- thats pretty tough try finding some floppy drive cords with the same sockets as the notebook hd it should read it as a harddrive but you need to set your bios in order to make it read the new hard drive
- Here's a link showing exactly the part to mount the drive in. http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0316761 Here's a page with a list of hard-drive enclosures. The enclosures can be used to simply install the hard-drive in and then read the data off of it. You can then move the data to your destop. http://microcenter.com/search/search_results.phtml?search_within=2.5+drive&keyword=+2.5+enclosure&keyword_array%5B2.5%5D=2.5&keyword_array%5Benclosure%5D=enclosure&sortby=match
