Gateway Parts

Do Computer Companies buy used computers/computer parts and scraps?

I have an old HP, 3 years old, I've upgraded it in the past years, it runs like crap and I want to buy a new computer, but I'm not going to spend 1000 dollars on a good computer that will last me a coule of years, I'm planning on buy a refurbished ASUS Computer, i7, 9 gigs, 1 TB HD, and Nvidia GTX260. 799.99, good price for a refurbished computer, but I want to sell my old desktop. I've upgraded my video card twice, 2 years ago with an EVGA 7900GT and then with a BFG Tech 8800GTS. I've also added a 500 Watt power supply and I still have the old one, with the standard HP memory, hard drive, motherboard, and case. I'm wondering do any companies buy computer parts like these? and how much money could I get for them.

  1. I'm not sure
  2. If you still have the restore disks that came with the system, Install ubuntu linux 9.1 on that system, using the entire hard drive. That will accomplish two things: 1) It will wipe clean the hard drive (no personal data left on it) 2) It will bring the system back to life, you will LOVE IT running linux After that, the choice is yours. You might decide to keep it, after you experience the outstanding performance of the machine while running linux. But you could also list it on craigslist, someone will buy it if you price it right. When you write your listing, say that it's running ubuntu linux 9.1, but comes with restore disks so that you can reinstall windows if you want to. It's more valuable that way, a choice of operating systems! As for how to price it... If it's a celeron, that's bad. Price it at $150. If it's NOT a celeron, that's good. Price it at $250. You really can't sell a used system for much more than $250, as low-end new systems start around $300. But if you've upgraded the power supply and upgraded the video card to 8800GTS, you've added some value to the system. It's easy to justify $250.
