I have a Gateway Solo 5300 laptop with Windows xp and excellent mouse pad and keys no problem. Can I use a usb?

My mouse and keys are working find, but I recently found a Gateway mouse with a usb connection, can I use it alternately from time to time without causing any problem? If I do, will it deactivate the mouse pad?

1. You can use it with no problem. The pad will not be affected to any extent by the using of an external mouse.
2. Go ahead use USB mouse so you don't overuse the mouse pad. It will function simultaneously. Nothing to worry.
