Gateway Laptop?

I own a Gateway laptop and in the middle of me doing something on the computer is just shuts off? i know that it shouldnt do this anyone know why? perhaps i need a new battery?

1. I have one too. Its windows 98. It did this a lot when new,[ten years ago] Then it stopped doing it for no reason. Sometimes it said error 39, and turned off. I still have it and it works perfectly now but not online[too old] So it will probably get better like mine did.
2. Hi, I think the battery is the root cause of your problems.
3. I've had this happen to me a couple of times too (THIS is a Gateway laptop, also)- but when it was on AC.. So while it COULD be your battery, it might also just be one of those "unexplained technological 'glitches' "- that just seems to happen once in a while. If it's happening to YOU, much more often than THAT- I'd give Gateway a call & find out WHAT you can do about it. :)
