Gateway Parts

What other parts of the computer does the RAM/memory interact with? (ex. CPU) Why is it (memory/RAM) important?

I need a little help for computer class. Since this is a beginners class, use these major parts for the interact part: harddrive, power supply and fans, CPU and heat sink, motherboard, and cards (video, ethernet, and sound) MY TEACHER DID NOT TEACH ME ANYTHING ON THIS YET!!

  1. Pay better attention in class. Your teacher covered this already!
  2. You're not going to learn much if somebody just gives you the answer here. Looking up all those components on wikipedia would tell you what they do, and therefore how they interact with each other. Some of what follows may not be correct (depending on what you were taught and how in depth it went), but I'll suggest them anyway: Hard-drive and RAM: some interaction PSU + fans, and RAM: no real interaction CPU + heat sink, and RAM: very close interaction Motherboard and RAM: some interaction Cards and RAM: a little interaction Why is RAM important? It provides a fast way for the CPU to access and manipulate data Like I say, those answers may be incorrect depending on what you were taught as computers are evolving, and how RAM communicates with the rest of the computer has changed radically in the last few years. Quite apart from not providing sufficient information, my answers may well also not be "correct" for your course.
