what wrong with a gateway laptop screen if it isnt cracked?

ok so i have this gateway laptop and the screen wont work but yet its not cracked. i think it might have just gone out but im not totally sure. so what do you think is wrong with the screen if it isnt cracked but yet theres nothing coming on the screen or anything? and all of the cords going to the screen are plugged in and look good.

1. Shine a light across the front of the screen and look closely to see if there are any images (have the laptop running) if there is then the back light has died. If no images are seen then plug an external monitor into the system and see if you get graphics if you do then the screen is dead but if you get nothing on the external then your video card may be the problem, it may be driver or the card
2. Gateway is a brand I try and stay away from. They were ok when PCs were pretty generic (Before the original Pentium took off), but they lost it as the field became competitive. The notebooks themselves are some of the worse. Often defective from the Manufacturer they find themselves in the refurbished markets quite quickly where they sell for half if not a quarter of the original price. If I had to guess it is because the LCD burned out or something on the board stopped working. The other thing about Gateway is that alot of their in-house refurbs go back out to sell as new. So you may very well have a refurb. Oh forgot also Gateway's refurb rating is one of the worst in the industry. http://www.barterpc.org/
