Gateway Parts

Problems with my gateway laptop battery and the model number?

I bought a laptop in May of last year, and for some reason, when its plugged in to charge< it goes in and out of thinking its plugged in or not. The screen goes from light to dark, etc. I'm looking to buy a new adapter for it, but I dont know what model it is to buy the correct one. Its black, has a silver stripe going down the back of it, has a widescreen monitor, and a built in webcam. If anybody can tell me what model this is, or the correct adapter to use (it has a yellow tip on the computer plug part, but a lot of them seem to have that) i thank you soooooo much. Thanks!

  1. You might need to get a new adapter. I had a similar thing happen on my Acer laptop, and I took it in as it was still under warranty, and the people at the store replaced the adapter (it's worked fine ever since). However, it's also possible that the power connection on your motherboard has come loose. That is a much more serious problem, because it requires replacing the motherboard completely. You really, really want all your data backed up before you do something like that. Either way, though, if the laptop is under warranty you should take it in and have it looked at. Having the power flip on and off like that is no good for the hardware, especially the battery which may lose some of its maximum charge.
  2. Just look under your laptop and take down the model number usually its a random long number consisting of letters of the alphabet along with the number, then you can just search for the adapter of that laptop model. I think the problem may be your laptop someone may have changed the settings to make it go dim or into power saver mode when its plugged in and high performance when unplugged. You might want to have that checked.
